33. The only reward of those who make war upon Allah and His messenger and strive after
corruption in the land will be that they will be killed or crucified, or have their
hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, or will be expelled out of the land. Such
will be their degradation in the world, and in the Hereafter theirs will be an
awful doom;

33. The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His Apostle and strive
with might and main for mischief through the land is: execution or crucifixion of the
cutting off of hands and feet from opposite sides or exile from the land: that is
their disgrace in this world and a heavy punishment is theirs in the Hereafter.

34. Save those who repent before ye overpower them. For know that Allah is
Forgiving, Merciful.

34. Except for those who repent before they fall into your power: in that case
know that Allah is Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful.

35. O ye who believe! Be mindful of your duty to Allah, and seek the way of approach
unto Him, and strive in His way in order that ye may succeed.

35. O ye who believe! do your duty to Allah seek the means of approach unto Him and
strive with might and main in His cause: that ye may prosper.

36. As for those who disbelieve, lo! if all that is in the were theirs, and as much
again therewith, to ransom them from the doom on the day of Resurrection, it would
not be accepted from them. Theirs will be a painful doom.

36. As to those who reject faith if they had everything on earth and twice repeated
to give as ransom for the penalty of the Day of Judgment it would never be accepted
of them. Theirs would be a grievous penalty.

37. They will wish to come forth from the Fire, but they will not come forth from it.
Theirs will be a lasting doom.

37. Their wish will be to get out of the fire but never will they get out therefrom:
their penalty will be one that endures.

38. As for the thief, both male and female, cut off their hands. It is the reward of
their own deeds, an exemplary punishment from Allah. Allah is Mighty, Wise.

38. As to the thief male or female cut off his or her hands: a punishment by way of
example from Allah for their crime: and Allah is Exalted in Power.

39. But whoso repenteth after his wrongdoing and amendeth, lo! Allah will relent toward
him. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

39. But if the thief repent after his crime and amend his conduct Allah turneth to him
in forgiveness; for Allah if Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful.

40. Knowest thou not that unto Allah belongeth the Sovereignty of the heavens and the
earth? He punisheth whom He will, and forgiveth whom He will. Allah is Able to do
all things.

40. Knowest thou not that to Allah (alone) belongeth the dominion of the heavens
and the earth? He punisheth whom He pleaseth and He forgiveth whom He pleaseth:
and Allah hath power over all things.
