who doth greater wrong than he who forbiddeth
the approach to the sanctuaries of Allah...

and touch them not, but be at your devotions in the mosques.

Say: My Lord enjoineth justice. And set
your faces, upright (toward Him) at every
place of worship and call upon Him, making
religion pure for Him (only). As He brought
you into being, so return ye (unto Him)

O Children of Adam! Look to your adornment
at every place of worship,

It is not for the idolaters to tend Allah's sanctuaries,
bearing witness against themselves of disbelief.

He only shall tend Allah's sanctuaries who believeth
in Allah and the Last Day and observeth proper
worship and payeth the poor due and feareth
none save Allah. For such (only) is it possible
that they can be of the rightly guided

And as for those who chose a place of worship out of
opposition and disbelief, and in order to cause dissent
among the believers, and as an outpost for those
who warred against Allah and His messenger aforetime,
they will surely swear : We purposed naught save good.
Allah beareth witness that they verily are liars.

Never stand (to pray) there.
1

A place of worship which was founded upon duty
(to Allah) from the first day is more worthy
that thou shouldst stand (to pray) therein,
wherein are men who love to purify themselves.
