Children of Israel were commanded to enter into a township 1

A settled town 1
Or (bethink thee of) the like of him who, passing by a township which had fallen into utter ruin, 1
and of the feeble among men and of the women and the children who are crying: Our Lord! Bring us forth from out this town of which the people are oppressors! 1
And this is a blessed Scripture which We have revealed, confirming that which (was revealed) before it, that thou mayst warn the Mother of Villages and those around her 1
And thus have We made in every city great ones of its wicked ones, that they should plot therein. They do but plot against themselves, though they perceive not. 1
This is because thy Lard destroyeth not the townships arbitrarily while their people are unconscious (of the wrong they do). 1
How many a township have We destroyed! As a raid by night, or while they slept at noon, Our terror came unto them. 1
And the answer of his people was only that they said (one to another): Turn them out of your township. They are folk, forsooth, who keep pure. 1
The chieftains of his people, who were scornful, said: Surely we will drive thee out, O Shueyb, and those who believe with thee, from our township, unless ye return to our religion. 1
And We sent no prophet unto any township but We did afflict its folk with tribulation and adversity that haply they might grow humble 1
And if the people of the townships had believed and kept from evil, surely We should have opened for them, blessings from the sky and from the earth. But (unto every messenger) they gave the lie, and so We seized them on account of what they used to earn 1
Are the people of the townships then secure from the coming of Our wrath, upon them as a night raid while they sleep? 1
Or are the people of the townships then secure from the coming of Our wrath upon them in the daytime while they play? 1
Such were the townships. We relate some tidings of them unto thee (Muhammad). Their messengers verily came unto them with clear proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty), but they could not believe because they had before denied. Thus doth Allah print upon the hearts of disbelievers (that they hear not). 1
And when it was said unto them: Dwell in this township 1
Ask them (O Muhammad) of the township that was by the sea, 1
If only there had been a community (of all those that were destroyed of old) that believed and profited by its belief as did the folk of Jonah 1
