foe ............. some of you, foe for others 1 2 Who is an enemy to Gabriel 1 Who is an enemy to Allah, and His angels and His messengers, and Gabriel and Michael! Then, lo! Allah (Him- self) is an enemy to the disbelievers. 1 Lo! he is an open enemy for you. 1 2 3 4 And remember Allah's favor unto you: how ye were enemies and He made friendship between your hearts so that ye became as brothers by His grace; 1 Allah knoweth best (who are) your enemies. Allah is sufficient as a Friend, and Allah is sufficient as a Helper 1 If he (the victim) be of a people hostile unto you, and he is a believer, then (the penance is) to set free a believing slave 1 And when ye go forth in the land, it is no sin for you to curtail (your) worship if ye fear that those who disbelieve may attack you. In truth the disbelievers are an open enemy to you 1 Thus have We appointed unto every Prophet an adversary--- devils of humankind and jinn who inspire in one another plausible discourse through guile. 1 He said: it may be that your Lord is going to destroy your adversary and make you viceroys in the earth, that He may see how ye behave. 1 Oh, make not mine enemies to triumph over me and place me not among the evil doers! 1 Make ready for them all thou canst of (armed) force and of horses tethered, that thereby ye may dismay the enemy of Allah and your enemy, and others beside them whom ye know not. Allah knoweth them. 1 If Allah bring thee back (from the campaign) unto a party of them and they ask of thee leave to go out (to fight), then say unto them: Ye shall never more go out with me nor fight with me against a foe. Ye were content with sitting still the first time. So sit still, with the useless. 1 The prayer of Abraham for the forgiveness of his father was only because of a promise he had promised him, but when it had become clear unto him that he (his father) was an enemy to Allah he (Abraham) disowned him. 1 That is because neither thirst nor toil nor hunger afflicteth them in the way of Allah, nor step they any step that angereth the disbelievers, nor gain they from the enemy a gain, but a good deed is recorded for them therefor. 1
