Beside Allah

of mankind are some who take unto themselves objects
of worship which they set as rivals to Allah
1 

and that none of us shall take others for 
lords beside Allah.

It is not (possible) for any human being 
unto whom Allah had given the Scripture and 
wisdom and the Prophethood that he should 
afterwards have said unto mankind: Be slaves 
of me instead of Allah; but (what he said 
was): Be ye faithful servants of the Lord 
by virtue of your constant teaching of the 
Scripture and of your constant study thereof

And when Allah saith: O Jesus, son of Mary!
Didst thou say unto mankind: Take me and my mother
for two gods beside Allah?

Or deemed ye that ye would be left (in peace) when
Allah yet knoweth not those of you who strive,
choosing for familiar none save Allah and His
messenger and the believers?

They have taken as lords beside Allah their rabbis
and their monks and the Messiah son of Mary,
1

And this Quran is not such as could ever be
invented in despite of Allah; but it is a
confirmation of that which was before it
and an exposition of that which is decreed
for mankind. Therein is no doubt from the
Lord of the Worlds.

Say: Then bring a surah like unto it, and call
(for help) on all ye can besides Allah,
if ye are truthful.
